Raphael Varane (Real Madrid)

The main area of the team that United will need to strengthen this summer is the heart of their back four, especially given the fact that both experienced duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand are expected to leave Old Trafford come the end of the season.

And with Ancelotti having now worked with the coveted young France international at the Santiago Bernabeu in this campaign, do not be surprised at all to see the Italian try to lure the 20-year-old to the Theatre of Dreams if he does indeed become the new United boss.

Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

Another target for Ancelotti will be the prolific Uruguay international, especially as if the Madrid boss is given the job ahead of Louis van Gaal, then many expected the Dutchman’s compatriot Robin van Persie to quit the Red Devils this summer.

And if that scenario does come to fruition, then one of the first tasks Ancelotti would need to look at would be the purchase of a new world-class front man to take over from the departing RVP at Old Trafford, with Cavani the most likely candidate.

Cesc Fabregas (FC Barcelona)

Ancelotti will have had more than enough tome to check on the progress that the former Arsenal skipper has been making at Camp Nou this season, as well as being in the ideal position to ascertain just whether the recent rumours about the midfielder’s poor form have any substance.

However, with the centre of the park another worrying area of the pitch as far as the Premier League champions are concerned at present, then do not be at all surprised to see the experienced trainer ask the Red Devils to reignite their longstanding interest in the 26-year-old this summer.

William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon)

Ancelotti is well known from his upbringing in Serie A of being fond of utilising at least one, and sometimes even two, holding midfelders in front of his back four in order to offer great protection to his defence.

And as a result, one of the first areas of the team that the Italian would definitely be most concerned about would be this area, and with the Red Devils reportedly already well advanced in talks with the powerful Portugal international, all that the former Chelsea boss would need to do is to give the green light to executive vice-chairman Ed Wooward to complete the big-money deal for the water carrier this summer.

Luke Shaw (Southampton)

With the Red Devils seemingly already nearing a £30m deal for the highly rated young England international, all Ancelotti would need to do were he to be appointed as the club’s new manager would be be to sanction the big-money transfer, with it expected that all prospective moves that Woodward is currently working on still be passed by the new manager for his seal of approval.

Either way, though, it would still represent something of a major surprise were the new boss to veto such a move, which United have been working on for some time now, especially given the doubts that are still surrounding the Old Trafford future of current left-back Patrice Evra.
