Exclusive: Man United to Offload 12 Players In Massive Summer Clear-Out as New Old Trafford Boss Begins to Pull the Strings

Incoming boss draws up list of potential targets whilst as many as a dozen look set for an Old Trafford exit.

Man United are set for a stunning clear-out as incoming boss Louis van Gaal and Old Trafford chief executive Ed Woodward set about remodeling the club’s squad.

CaughtOffside understands that Woodward has met with the Dutch national team coach and a lengthy discussion led to the drawing up of a list of preferred targets that the 62 year old manager wants to bring in as well as an overall strategy to freshen up the club’s under-performing squad.

Man United will veteran trio Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand leave the club when their contract expire in the summer and have already made exploratory moves for relevant replacements.

To this end Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels is one target the Premier League side want to bring in whilst they are also pursuing Southampton teenager Luke Shaw, though they are said to be reticent about meeting the 18 year old’s reported £30m price-tag.

Though David Moyes recently recalled Nani to the first team set-up Man United will hope to garner a decent fee for the Portuguese international who is not seen as part of the club’s long term plans and Woodward hopes that interest from Juventus results in an official bid from the Serie A side.

Tom Cleverley is also set for a summer exit with Louis van Gaal having identified as many as three potential central midfield additions leaving the England international out in the cold.

Van Gaal will look to continue Man United’s long term push to bring in Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos and is also interested in Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Louis van Gaal’s arrival will bring to an end speculation of a possible of striker Robin Van Persie, with the Dutch national team coach known to have a good relationship with the 30 year old forward, this will lead to Javier Hernandez being sold.

There is interest from a number of La Liga sides though the Mexican is said to be keen on remaining in the Premier League where his wage expectations are more likely to be met and with that in mind Tottenham are said to be interested in the Mexican international.

The emergence of Adnan Januzaj is set to continue apace under van Gaal and as such under-performing winger Ashley Young will be made available though the successful sale of the former Aston Villa man will depend greatly on just how much Man United hope to recoup from his sale.

Marouane Fellaini could be set for a swift exit as Louis van Gaal is apparently not a big fan of the powerful midfielder, who has disappointed in a holding role and failed to justify the £27.5m invested in his services.

Man United may be willing to take a significant loss on any sale of the Belgian and will hope that a good World Cup showing could lead to interest from sides on the continent.

A number of loaned out players will be sold on a permanent basis even if only nominal fees can be accrued from their sales.

Portuguese forward Bebe has had a decent season on loan at Paços de Ferreira and will not return to the Man United squad, likewise forward Federico Macheda will be sold though a permanent move to Birmingham City seems unlikely with the Rome born 22 year old looking for a move to a top tier side and a move to Serie A is likely.

Danish back-up keeper Anders Lindegaard wants to leave the club in order to secure regular first team football and Man United will not stand in his way.

Man United spent £15m to sign winger Wilfried Zaha, who then didn’t seem to fit in with David Moyes’s plans and doesn’t appear likely to figure in Louis van Gaal’s first team set-up.

Former club Crystal Palace are keen to welcome the England international back to Selhurst Park and Man United are willing to accept around £8m for the 21 year old.

Louis van Gaal will look retain Ryan Giggs and will look to the Welshman to work with Patrick Kluivert as his two assistants.
