La Liga giants Real Madrid are set to beat the Premier League duo of Chelsea and Liverpool to the coveted signature of Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno this summer.

Both the Reds and the Blues have been keeping close tabs on the hugely talented young full back of late as each side looks to sign a new left-sided defender for next season.

The west London club will allow experienced England international Ashley Cole to quit Stamford Bridge on a Bosman free transfer when the 33-year-old’s current deal in the capital runs out at the end of June.

Meanwhile, the Merseysiders have already decided not to take up an option to keep hold of Valencia left wing-back Aly Cissokho when the Frenchman’s season-long loan spell at Anfield comes to an end at the climax to this campaign.

And both outfits were understood to be preparing big-money offers to try to tempt Sevilla to part company with their newly capped Spain international when the summer transfer window reopened for business.

However, both sides will have to now start looking elsewhere at alternative left-back targets after it emerged in Spain that Moreno will be moving to Los Blancos, who themselves are preparing to allow in-demand Portugal international Fabio Coentrao to move to the Premier League.

Highly rated Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone does have ambitions to work in the English Premier League at some point in the future, although the Argentinian is sure to be a man in demand if he does manage to guide the La Liga outfit to an unlikely league and Uefa Champions League double this season.

Simeone’s name has been heavily mentioned in relation to the vacant managerial role at Manchester United in recent days following the sudden departure of David Moyes from Old Trafford last week.

However, while the former Argentina international captain has interestingly started taking English lessons of late, the role at the Theatre of Dreams has just come too soon for him to seriously consider.

But according to those close to the inspirational 44-year-old, Simeone is determined to coach a team in both Serie A and the Premier League when he does eventually decide to end his spell at the Vicente Calderon in an admission that will surely alert a number of prospective club chairmen in England.

And in another interesting development, it is also understood that the Argentinian Football Association recently got in contact with the Atleti boss to ascertain whether he would be interested in taking over from the current manager Alejandro Sabella when he steps down from his position at the end of this summer’s World Cup.

However, Simeone has since rejected his country’s overtures, explaining his ambitions to further develop his coaching education in Italy and England after leaving Spain, before then finishing his career back in his homeland by taking charge of the Argentina national team.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City are set to lose out to La Liga champions FC Barcelona in the race to sign exciting young Real Sociedad centre-back Inigo Martinez this summer.

The two Premier League giants have been sending scouts over to the Basque country since the turn of the year to run their eye over the Spain international as they both look to purchase a new central defender fort next season.

However, the champions and their city rivals will now have to switch their focus elsewhere after the Catalans began moves to lure Martinez to Camp Nou this summer, with Barca’s recent Fifa-imposed transfer ban set to be reduced on appeal.

I am now hearing that big-spending Premier League side Manchester City will replace their own departing front man Sergio Aguero with prolific AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao at Eastlands next season.

City’s diminutive Argentina international is set to quit the north-west club when the summer transfer window reopens and finally seal his long-awaited dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

‘Kun’ would have joined Los Blancos when he left Atletico Madrid three years ago, only for Atleti to refuse to sanction such a move to their fierce city rivals, as was also the case with both Fernando Torres and Falcao himself when they departed the Vicente Calderon.

However, with Aguero said to be missing his young son, the striker wants to be closer to Benjamin who now lives in the Spanish capital with his mother and ‘Kun’s’ ex-wife, the daughter of Diego Maradona.

City asked the attacker to at least give it this season before making any rushed decisions on where his future may lie following the break-up of his marriage to Giannina last year.

But the player has since informed City that he intends to quit the club come the end of the campaign, with the Blues said to be determined to replace one South American goal poacher with another in the form of Colombia international Falaco, who is expected to have recovered from his serious knee-ligament injury by the summer.
