Van Gaal is the red-hot favourite now to replace the recently departed David Moyes in the Old Trafford hot seat next season, however, already the Premier League champions’ star striker has worries about the Dutchman’s appointment.

And that is because Rooney is said to fear the elevated role that will be given to his strike partner Robin van Persie at the Theatre of Dreams next season under his compatriot, with the two men known to share a close working relationship ever since Van Gaal became the Netherlands coach two years ago.

In fact, there is even now talk that Van Gaal will make his fellow countryman the next Red Devils skipper, with current captain Nemanja Vidic set to leave the club for Serie A outfit Inter Milan when his contract runs out at the end of the campaign.
