Michael Owen for England against Germany – John Motson, BBC Sport.

Germany had previously lost just one World Cup qualifier on home soil in their entire history, but they were thrashed 5-1 by Sven Goran Eriksson’s England in September 2001.

The Three Lions fell behind early on, but a hat-trick from Michael Owen, a long-range strike from Steven Gerrard and a rare goal from Emile Heskey secured an incredible away victory in Munich.

In truth, this entire video is worth a watch, but the highlight comes after three minutes when Owen bags his third and Motson explodes with delight.

Paul Gascoigne for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal – Barry Davies, BBC Sport.

Gazza stunned Wembley Stadium with a brilliant free-kick to send Spurs on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Gunners in the 1991 FA Cup semi-final.

Davies captured that shock perfectly and the poshness of his “oh I say” was just priceless.

Steven Gerrard for Liverpool against Olympiakos – Andy Gray, Sky Sports.

A 26th-minute strike from Rivaldo meant that Liverpool needed to score three second-half goals at Anfield to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League in December 2004.

Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Neil Mellor both found the net to set up a grandstand finish, before captain fantastic crashed home a thumping long-range effort to send the Reds through.

It is fair to say that Mr Gray got a tad excited.

Jimmy Glass for Carlisle United against Plymouth Argyle – Derek Lacey, BBC Radio Cumbria.

Deep in stoppage time on the final day of the 1998-99 season, Carlisle United and Plymouth Argyle were tied at 1-1 at Brunton Park.

The Cumbrians, who needed a win to stay in the Football League, won a corner and up trotted on-loan Swindon Town goalkeeper Jimmy Glass.

Somehow, the ball fell perfectly for Glass, who shanked home one of the scruffiest yet most beautiful goals of all time. Carlisle were saved, Scarborough were relegated and Glass was immortalised.

Fernando Torres for Chelsea against Barcelona – Gary Neville, Sky Sports.

In his first season as a pundit, Neville had the pleasure of commentating on Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Barca at the Camp Nou in 2012.

The former Manchester United defender certainly found the experience pleasurable and seemingly reached some sort of climax when Torres scored a late goal on the counter-attack to put the Blues 3-2 ahead on aggregate.
