Liverpool’s Luis Suarez Vs Man City’s Sergio Aguero: Which Striker Has Had The Better Premier League Season?

We compare two of the Premier League’s deadliest strikers this season, Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

1) GAMES: 32 v 22

Despite Suarez missing the first five league games of the campaign, the Uruguayan has actually ended up playing in ten more Premier League games than Aguero has, which is because of the latter’s constant injury problems.

2) MINUTES PLAYED: 2873 v 1437

And the fact that the Argentina international has been forced to endure an injury-ravaged campaign is borne out by these above numbers, which also show just how well the Reds have done to get their own star striker on the pitch for as many minutes as they have done this season.

3) GOALS: 31 v 17

Suarez has managed 14 more goals in the league this season than his fellow South American to lead the scoring charts in England, although given just how many fewer games that Kun has been able to feature in for City this season, his overall goals return is still impressive.

4) MINUTES PER GOAL: 92.7 v 82.3

And so actually it turns out that the little Argentinian attacker has been more deadly in front of goal that his rival from Anfield, with Aguero’s overall goalscoring rate just slightly superior to Suarez’s.

5) ASSISTS PER GAME: 0.38 v 0.38

Nothing to separate the duo here when it comes to the business of creating goals for team-mates, which may surprise a few when you consider that the City forward is known for being the arch predator in the box, while the Liverpool front man is famed for being a great all-round attacker who is just as happy laying on goals as scoring them.

6)  AERIAL DUELS WON PER GAME: 0.56 v 0.5

While neither played is renowned for their aerial abilities, it is not really that surprising that the taller Uruguay international just emerges out on top in this particular head to head, although again it is a close run thing.

7) KEY PASSES PER GAME: 2.35 v 1.57

Anyone who has watched the two players closely in action so far in this brilliant campaign can only have marveled at the impish Uruguay international’s world-class ability to affect games with his outstanding passing abilities, a skill that the arch-preadtor and fox-in-the-box Aguero leaves for his team-mates to do.

8) TOTAL SHOTS PER GAME: 5.58 v 4.95

Again, no real great surprise here in that Suarez loves nothing better than to attempt a shot on goal, no matter the distance, game situation or even possibility of the ball ending up in the back of the net – see the striker’s long-range wonder goal against Norwich City at Anfield earlier this season as proof of that – while his rival from Eastlands is a far more considered attacker who generally likes to do most of his business in the opposition box and shooting only when the goal is gaping.
