How Manchester United’s XI Will Look Next Season After A Summer Of Transfers Including Former Arsenal Superstar

It’s expected to be a busy close season for the Red Devils.

After finishing their first season without Sir Alex Ferguson in charge with their lowest ever Premier League points tally and no Champions League football, big changes are expected at Manchester United.

Captain Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have already confirmed they are leaving the club and there are a number of high profile names linked with transfers to Old Trafford.

So here is how the Red Devils starting XI could look in 2014/15.

GK – David de Gea

Whilst it has been a poor campaign for most of the United players, arguably their goalkeeper has gotten even better and is beginning to look like a safe pair of hands between the sticks.

At 23 years-old de Gea has plenty of years left at the top and maybe the side should be thanking goalkeeping coach Chris Woods a little more.

RB – Phil Jones

David Moyes never seemed to find the ideal candidate at right-back during a season of tinkering, with Rafael, Chris Smalling and even Antonio Valencia being trialed in the position.

Yet according to many the versatile Jones’ best spot is on the right side of the back four and the 22 year-old could finally find his place in the side.

LB – Luke Shaw

Reports in the Guardian suggest that the Red Devils have already started the bidding for this Southampton starlet as they look to tie up the deal before the 2014 World Cup starts.

With Patrice Evra expected to depart the club along with Ferdinand and Vidic when his contract expires this summer, Shaw could be the perfect replacement.

CB – Mats Hummels

Central defence is of course one of the priority areas for improvement for the team after their partnership of the last eight years is broken up.

As one of the best centre-backs in world football currently they could certainly do a lot worse than Borussia Dortmund’s Hummels, who the Mirror says United are keeping tabs on.

CB – Eliaquim Mangala

With Evra going and question marks over the capabilities of Alexander Buttner, being able to sign a defender who can play centrally and on the left would be the ideal solution.

This is where FC Porto star Mangala comes in and at 23 years-old could also be the future of the team for years to come, according to the Manchester Evening News.

CM – Cesc Fabregas

If central defence is a problem area due to departures, central midfield is because of the poor form of current crop Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and £27.5m signing Marouane Fellaini.

Therefore with Fabregas growing disillusioned with life at Barcelona it’s little wonder the Daily Mail says the Red Devils are going to reignite their interest in the Spain international.

CM – William Carvalho

Alongside Fabregas we expect the club to finally confirm their landing of Sporting Lisbon’s Carvalho, after scouting the 22 year-old for much of the last 12 months.

The midfielder has been impressing so much in Portugal that he is now established in the national side and could bring some grit to the middle of the park, reports the Manchester Evening News.

RM – Adnan Januzaj

Another positive from a troubled campaign for the club has been the emergence of this young winger as a real top-class talent.

Moyes perhaps put too much pressure on the Belgian, but with the right guidance Januzaj could continue to develop at the rapid rate the 19 year-old is currently.

CAM – Juan Mata

Became the side’s most expensive signing of all time in January after joining from Chelsea for a £37.1m fee and whilst struggled to settle to start with, Mata found his form once more towards the end of the term.

Having been the Blues’ Player of the Year in both 2012 and 2013 the Spaniard certainly has experience in the English top flight and plays best when in the No.10 role.

LM – Wayne Rooney

With Mata playing behind the striker it is Rooney who will have to play out of position to accommodate an impressive attack that hasn’t quite clicked as yet.

After becoming the highest paid player in Premier League history in 2013/14 with wages of £300,000-a-week the England international needs to start proving he’s worth it.

ST – Robin van Persie

There were reports that van Persie wanted to leave the club just two years after a £24m transfer from Arsenal, but with current Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal expected to take over as manager that has changed.

The 30 year-old has spent much of this season injured, but when fit there are few better strikers in the game and the Dutchman has a good relationship with fellow countryman van Gaal.
