5= Yaya Toure (Manchester City): 9 assists

What a sensational campaign the giant Ivory Coast international has just had, with the long-legged midfielder having found the back of the net on an incredible 20 occasions in just 30 Premier League contests for Manuel Pellegrini’s slick outfit.

However, it is not just the 30-year-old’s goals though that were so impressive, but also his unselfish approach play too, with Toure having laid on a further nine strikes on a plate for his Blues team-mates as well.

5= Mesut Ozil (Arsenal): 9 assists

While Mesut Ozil was criticised a great deal in the new year for what may have appeared a series of lacklustre performances, Arsenal’s record signing was perhaps simply jaded in his first ever club season without a winter break.

The German superstar still racked up a highly credible nine assists, and Arsenal fans will be excited for his development next season.

5= David Silva (Manchester City): 9 assists

No player made more key passes per game than David Silva this season, with the Spaniard’s creative touch setting up 3.2 shooting opportunities for his team-mates each match this term.

Had Silva been fit for more than his 27 appearances, Man City might well have claimed the title before the last day of the season.

4) Wayne Rooney (Manchester United): 10 assists

One of the – if not the – best players at Old Trafford last season, with the England international even captaining the Red Devils on occasion, while the 28-year-old was also rewarded with his fine form by being offered a new bumper contract.

However, ‘Wazza’ was fully deserving of the bumper deal, with the striker not only 17 strikes in his 29 Premier League games for the woefully inconsistent former champions, but he was also behind 10 other goals too.

3) Rickie Lambert (Southampton): 10 assists

Many people may be surprised to see the name of the Saints forward appearing in this list. However, there is so much more to the 32-year-old’s game than simply putting the ball in the back of the net, although he does that pretty well too – hence the player’s inclusion on England’s 23-man World Cup squad on Monday.

However, alongside the attacker’s 13 top-flight strikes for the high-flying south-coast club last campaign were a further 10 assists as well.

2) Luis Suarez (Liverpool): 12 assists

Is there anything the recently crowned double Footballer of the Year cannot do? Not only did the Uruguay international plunder his way to an incredible 31 goals in just 33 Premier League encounters for the Merseyside giants last season, but the 27-year-old was also the creator another 12 strikes for his Reds team-mates too, and invariably following an outrageous piece of individual brilliance too.

1) Steven Gerrard (Liverpool): 13 assists

The Reds skipper was an inspiration to the rest of his team-mates during the previous campaign in his newly created role sitting just in front of the back four.

However, despite the England international now operating far deeper than in previous seasons, that did not stop the 33-year-old from netting 13 times in the Premier League, while no other player in the entire top flight laid on as many goals as Stevie G did with his 13 assists, including two in the final day to help beat Newcastle United 2-1 at Anfield.
