The west London club have been heavily linked with making a move for the highly rated Germany international when the summer transfer window does finally reopen for business.

In fact, it is understood that Blues head coach Jose Mourinho is preparing a £36m bid for Khedira, a player he knows only too well after signing the 27-year-old from Bundesliga side Stuttgart while in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu four years ago.

And now the self-styled Special One is said to be keen to be reunited with the defensive midfielder at Stamford Bridge next season by which point Khedira is expected to have fully recovered from the serious knee-ligament injury he sustained playing for his country in a friendly international against Italy last November.

However, the Portuguese is now set to face stiff competition for Khedira’s signature from Roma, who will be competing in next season’s Uefa Champions League.
