Goodison Park boss Roberto Martinez attempted to loan the 22 year old England man last summer and is now readying multiple moves to improve his Toffees attack.
As well as chasing Townsend, who is currently sidelined with an injury that ruled him out of Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup finals squad, Martinez is also tracking QPR striker Loic Remy and Swansea City forward Wilfried Bony.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew also wants Townsend, who could find himself struggling for a foot-hold in the White Hart Lane starting XI next term with Aaron Lennon and Erik Lamela likely to be ahead of him in the north London club’s pecking order.
No doubt whomever comes in to replace sacked boss Tim Sherwood will also have their ideas about potential new additions that could further impact on Townsend’s chances of regular first team action.
Pardew has publicly voiced his admiration for the wide-man, stating;
“Fair play to the lad, he’s come into Tottenham’s team and done terrific. Now he has made that extra step, which is great for England and Spurs in particular.”
