Javier Mascherano (FC Barcelona)

While the all-action holding midfielder may have left Merseyside in controversial circumstances in the summer of 2010 after effectively going on strike in order to seal his dream move to Camp Nou, there is no doubt that the player would still be welcomed back with open arms at Anfield this summer.

And with rumours already rife that the Argentina international has now played his final game for Barca and now wants to return to play in the Premier League next season, then Reds boss Brendan Rodgers could do worse than re-sign the 29-year-old.

Emre Can (Bayer Leverkusen)

The Reds have also been heavily linked with a £10m swoop for the highly rated Germany Under-21 international, with recent reports in the German media even suggesting that a deal could be wrapped up as early as this week.

And if those stories are true, then Liverpool fans be excited to see the young holding midfielder in action at Anfield next season.

Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton)

The water carrier was outstanding for the south coast club in the previous season, ably protecting the Saints back four at all times in an understated way, although no so understated that France national team head coach Didier Deschamps did not notice, with the player having recently been included as part of Les Bleus’ provisional 30-man World Cup squad.

William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon)

A whole host of big-name Premier League clubs have been keeping close tabs on the massive Portugal international all campaign long.

And while Manchester United are the favourites to land the imposing defensive midfielder for next season, it is understood that Liverpool have also now joined their arch rivals in the race for the Portuguese starlet.

Alex Song (FC Barcelona)

Another water carrier with Premier League experience who is expected to leave Camp Nou when the summer transfer window reopens and the Liverpool boss is known to be pondering making a move for the one-time Arsenal star for next season, although the Northern Irishman will have to beat off stiff competition from the north London club if he wishes to succeed in luring Song to Anfield for the new campaign.
