Arsenal Still Hopeful Of Keeping Hold Of Bacary Sagna, Despite Lucrative Contract Offer From Manchester City

Full back will be available to pick up on a free transfer on July 1.

FA Cup winners Arsenal are said to still be confident of managing to keep hold of in-demand right-back Bacary Sagna at the Emirates next season, despite the fact that the player has now been offered a bumper deal to join Premier League champions Manchester City, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.

The France international’s current deal with the north London club now runs out at the end of next month and despite the fact that the player and his representatives and the Gunners hierarchy have been locked together in face to face negotiations now for well over the past 12 months, they are still seemingly nowhere nearer reaching a happy conclusion.

The north Londoners’ most recent contract offer was for three years – which goes against the club-wide policy of only handing out 12-month deals to those players aged over 30 – and on terms of £80,000 per week, which for the Gunners represents a very generous offer.

However, with City set to hand the 31-year-old a three-year contract worth well in excess of £100,ooo a week, Arsenal’s only hope of now keeping hold of the defender is that their cup win over Hull City on the weekend persuades Sagna to remain in the capital.
