Manchester United’s new manager Louis van Gaal has been awarded a monstrous transfer budget with which to fix the Red Devils squad, and is planning on stealing a striker target from under the noses of his Premier League rivals…
The Old Trafford side want to tempt Bayern Munich’s Croatian forward Mario Mandzukic into joining, despite the fact that Arsenal and Chelsea were previously regarded as frontrunners for his signature, reports the Daily Mail.
The 27-year-old forward did well for Bayern last term, scoring 26 goals in all competitions. However, his manager Pep Guardiola left him out of the squad for the German Cup final, and there are reports that the striker has already cleared his locker at the club’s training ground after Guardiola grew unhappy at the player’s attitude.
United already have the likes of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney to choose from up top, but LVG is apparently keen on securing another real poacher.
Arsenal and Chelsea are probably more in need of forward reinforcements though, and could definitely challenge the Dutch boss for the Croatian World Cup star.
Mandzukic has scored just the 13 goals in 48 appearances for his country, but will still lead the line for them this summer in Brazil.
