With Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger set to finally put pen to paper on his new bumper three-year contact with the north London club later this week, we take a look at the top 10 highest-earning coaches on Planet Football …

10) Jorge Jesus – Benfica – £3.34m per year

The wily Portuguese trainer has just enjoyed a wonderful campaign with his club side, guiding them to a domestic treble of league title, Portuguese Cup and Portuguese League Cup, while the Lisbon giants also came within a penalty shoot-out win of claiming last week’s Uefa Europa League crown as well. 

9) Manuel Pellegrini – Manchester City – £3.47m per year

The Chilean is one of the most experienced head coaches in Planet Football having managed a number of big-name teams both in South America and now Europe too, although last weekend’s Premier League title win with City was his first such success on the Continent.  

8) Jurgen Klopp – Borussia Dortmund – £3.59m per year

The highly rated German has performed wonders while being in charge of the Ruhr Valley outfit, guiding the club to back-to-back Bundesliga crowns in 2011 and 2012, as well as a runners-up spot in last year’s Uefa Champions League final too. 

7) Tata Martino – Barcelona – £4.5m per year

The Argentinian announced on the weekend that he would be leaving his post at Camp Nou this summer following the club’s failure to beat Atletico Madrid on Saturday to win the title and so complete a rare trophyless campaign in Catalonia in the process. 

6) Carlo Ancelotti – Real Madrid – £6.26m per year

The Italian has already won this season’s Copea del Rey in what in his debut campaign in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu, and now he has the chance to write his name into Los Blancos history by guiding the La Liga giants to glory in Saturday’s Uefa Champions League final against city-rivals Atletico Madrid in Lisbon for what would be a 10th European Cup title.

The former England boss has been in charge of the Russia national team for the past two years now and managed to successfully guide the eastern Europeans to this summer’s Fifa World Cup finals in Brazil. 

4) Arsene Wenger – Arsenal – £8m per year

The Frenchman’s new three-year deal that is expected to be announced at some point this week will see the long-term Gunners boss up to fourth place in the rich list on a staggering £8m a season.  

3) Marcelo Lippi – Guangzhou – £8.34m per year

The World Cup-winning Italy boss was lured to China on the basis of a lucrative deal worth an eye-catching £8.34m a year, which is nice work if you can get it! 

2) Jose Mourinho – Chelsea – £8.37m per year

Well, he is not called the Special One for nothing, although after a rare second season without a trophy, the Portuguese may have to start winning some silverware next season if he wishes to maintain that kind of salary. 

1) Pep Guardiola – Bayern Munich – £14.8m per year

Despite the Bavarian giants have recently relinquished their hold on the Uefa Champions League title that they won last year, the Catalan is still considered to be the premier coach on Planet Football.
