Ryan Giggs’ Career At Manchester United In Pictures And Video Including Champions League Triumphs And The Class Of ’92

The Welshman has hung up his boots after over 20 years in the first team.

It was the end of an era at Manchester United on Monday as club legend Ryan Giggs announced he has retired from playing football aged 40-years-old.

Giggs is the most decorated player in British history having broken into the first team in 1991 and matching Sir Alex Ferguson’s trophy haul during 23 years in the first team.

The Welshman will now take up a position as Louis van Gaal’s No.2 in the Red Devils dugout, so CaughtOffside takes a look back at a brilliant career.

Class of ’92

Giggs was the pick of a supremely talented group of youngsters who came through the academy at Old Trafford and went onto win numerous trophies.

This iconic photo also features David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Gary and Phil Neville.

First goal

Hardly the best of Giggs’ career and also looking as if Colin Hendry may have put it into his own net, this was the first of 154 goals for the club.

In 1993/94 Giggs played a major part in the Red Devils’ march on an historic double of the Premier League title and FA Cup.

FA Cup goal

Perhaps the most memorable moment of the midfielder’s career, Giggs scored the winner against Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final to keep the treble dream alive.

Just five years after winning the double the Red Devils made history again by winning the league, the cup and the Champions League all in the same year.

Juventus performance

During one of the spells of criticism during his career, Giggs silenced his critics in Turin with a brilliant brace against Juventus in a 0-3 win.

More Champions League success

Giggs joined an illustrious group in 2008 upon winning the Champions League for a second time after a penalty shootout victory over Chelsea.

Another record

It was a relatively unmemorable goal in the fact it was a penalty in a routine win against QPR, but Giggs’ strike in 2013 not only helped secure a 13th league title for the Welshman, but also ensured he had scored in every Premier League season.

Last game

During a 4-0 league win over Hull City at Old Trafford, the then interim manager took to the pitch for United for the final time.
