Liverpool are expected to enter the transfer market this summer, with Brendan Rodgers armed with a hefty budget ahead of his first ever Champions League campaign.

Here’s five players we can see arriving at Anfield, and five stars who could quite possibly leave, too.

Five in:

1) Dejan Lovren – Southampton

The Croatian was exceptional during his debut Premier League season, and has alerted the attention of Brendan Rodgers as a result. Reports claim Liverpool have made an £8m offer for the 24-year-old, but that’s basically what the Saints paid for him last summer. The Reds need central defensive enforcements after conceding 51 Premier League goals last term, and are likely bring in at least one central defender to fix the problem position. Tiago Ilori will return from loan and could also become involved in first-team plans.

2) Marcus Rojo – Sporting Lisbon

With Jose Enrique perpetually injured, Aly Cissokho’s loan spell not being made permanent, and Jon Flanagan naturally a right-back, Liverpool will definitely buy someone to play on the left of the defence. Rojo starts for Sporting Lisbon and Argentina, and could come and provide the Reds with attacking thrust up the left.

3) Mo Diame – West Ham

Diame has a £3.5m release clause, so would provide Liverpool with excellent value for money, and versatility, thanks to his ability to play in various midfield positions. He’s best in a dynamic anchoring role, where he starts deep, but is given the licence to drive forward with the ball at his feet. In this respect, he could take some of the energetic burden off Jordan Henderson.

2) Adam Lallana – Southampton

The Reds have already tabled a £20m bid for the Englishman, but it’s thought that the Saints are holding out for more. Lallana can play in central midfield or from the left, and could be the long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard.

1) Alexis Sanchez – Barcelona

The superb Chilean winger scored 19 goals for Barca last season, and registered 11 assist as well. Liverpool are readying an £18m for the world-class 25-year-old, but Serie A giants Juventus are apparently close to completing a deal for his services.

Five out:

5) Daniel Agger

The Danish defender couldn’t get in the side towards the back end of the season, with new signing Mamadou Sakho preferred to partner Martin Skrtel at the back. This annoyed Agger, who made comments to Danish television recently reporting his discontent at the situation. His eight and a half year tenure at Anfield could be nearing its end.

4) Aly Cissokho

The French left-back wasn’t abysmal during his loan spell from Valencia, but he wasn’t far off it. He’s technically poor, and his loan spell will definitely not be made permanent.

3) Lucas

The Brazilian anchorman’s place in the side has been taken now Steven Gerrard has adapted his position. Inter Milan want Lucas, who doesn’t provide the necessary energy or creativity.

2) Iago Aspas

Aspas arrived from Spain last summer, but hasn’t done anything at all to prove he’s got the ability to represent a Champions League club. He didn’t score a single Premier League goal, and the best thing for him would be to move back to his homeland.

1) Victor Moses

Another duff signing from last summer, Moses did nothing during his loan spell from Chelsea to tempt Liverpool into signing him properly. When the Nigerian leaves, Liverpool will only have Raheem Sterling as a proper winger in the squad, so Rodgers will need to sign some new players.
