How Louis Van Gaal Will Spend His £200m Manchester United Transfer Budget Including Former Chelsea Star

The Dutchman has been granted a hefty kitty to buy new players.

It looks set to be all change at Manchester United this summer as new manager Louis van Gaal has been given a £200m transfer kitty by the club, according to the Daily Express.

Veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have already said they are leaving Old Trafford and expected to be followed out of the club by Anderson, Tom Cleverley, Patrice Evra and Nani.

Van Gaal is expected to go on the hunt to inject some new talent into the squad and here is how the 62-year-old is likely to spend his budget.

William Carvalho, Sporting Lisbon

It was the Dutchman’s predecessor David Moyes that started this ball rolling when the Scot sent several scouting parties to Portugal to watch the midfielder.

Carvalho has been impressing with Sporting this season and the 22-year-old is expected to be a key part of the Portuguese national team at the 2014 World Cup.

Mats Hummels, Borussia Dortmund

With Ferdinand and Vidic heading off for pastures new, recruitment in central defence is a priority for van Gaal as question marks still remain over the capabilities of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the position.

In Hummels they would be able to acquire a centre-back who is considered to be among the best in the world currently and the German is still relatively young at 25-years-old.

Toni Kroos, Bayern Munich

The appointment of van Gaal finally appears to have swung the future of Kroos in United’s favour as the Germany international has a strong relationship with the manager.

The duo worked together for a year at Bayern in 2010/11 and with the 24-year-old about to enter the final year of his current contract, the Bundesliga champions could be convinced to sell.

Arjen Robben, Bayern Munich

Sticking with Pep Guardiola’s side and here’s another star who probably wouldn’t consider the Red Devils if it weren’t for the fact that van Gaal is boss.

Robben is well known to fans in England for the three years he spent with Chelsea and this former Real Madrid man would bring some much needed creativity in the final third.

Luke Shaw, Southampton

If there’s one deal that looks certain to happen it’s the signing of Shaw, with the two clubs negotiating a price that is set to fall somewhere between £27m and £30m.

The 18-year-old has been impressing with the Saints for the past two years and as a result was selected in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad ahead of veteran left-back Ashley Cole.

Kevin Strootman, AS Roma

A second Dutch star now, as having been the national team manager for the past two years it’s always likely that van Gaal will look to sign players from the Netherlands.

United were interested in Strootman last summer before the then PSV Eindhoven ace joined Roma and despite currently being out injured, would still be a great acquisition.
