South American is contracted to the Southern Spanish outfit until 2017.

European giants FC Barcelona and Manchester City are set to go head to head this summer in the battle to land highly rated Malaga goalkeeper Willy Caballero, according to reports in the Daily Express.

Find out who are the most valuable players in world football.

The Premier League champions are themselves currently on the look out for a new No 2 keeper to act as backup to first-choice shot-stopper Joe Hart at Eastlands next season with their current understudy Costel Pantilimon due to leave the north west this summer.

However, City head coach Manuel Pellegrini, who knows Caballero from their time working together when the Chilean trainer was in charge at Malaga before his switch to City last summer, is now set to face stiff competition for the Argentinian’s signature though from the La Liga giants.

And that is because Barca are in urgent need themselves of a new custodian at Camp Nou next season following the exits of both Spain international Vicyor Valdes and No 2 Jose Pinto from Catalonia this summer, with Caballero saying: “I don’t know if the speculation will come true, but it is an honour and makes me proud to be linked with Barca.”
