The 10 Potential Summer Signings For Mauricio Pochettino At Tottenham Including Manchester United Duo

How the Argentine could improve the Spurs squad.

The big news in the Premier League this week was that Mauricio Pochettino became the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, joining on a five-year deal from Southampton.

Despite the fact Spurs spent over £100m on new players 12 months ago, chairman Daniel Levy is likely to give the Argentine some sort of budget to bring in his own stars.

So here are 10 names Pochettino is looking to sign.

Nathaniel Clyne, Southampton

With doubts over the defensive capabilities of Kyle Walker and any capabilities of Kyle Naughton, signing a new right-back is not so unlikely and Pochettino has a good working relationship with Saints ace Clyne.

Ashley Cole, Chelsea

It’s a fairly similar story at left-back, where despite having a promising season on-loan with Sunderland in 2012/13, Danny Rose returned to White Hart Lane last term and failed to impress and as a free transfer Cole is an attractive prospect.

Daley Blind, Ajax

Sticking with the subject of left-backs and here is a player who has been impressing for both club and country over the past few years and with Champions League and international experience could be a very shrewd signing.

Rio Ferdinand, Manchester United

Like Cole this recently retired England international is also available on a free transfer this summer after revealing he is leaving Old Trafford after 12 years with the club, although at 35-years-old is hardly a signing for the future.

Javier Hernandez, Manchester United

Staying with the Red Devils and here is a striker that Tottenham have been linked with for some time, due to the Mexican’s continued frustration at a lack of game time with United and the north Londoners’ need for support in attack.

Adam Lallana, Southampton

Despite strong links with a transfer to Liverpool, the fact Pochettino has gone to north London could convince the Saints captain and strong advocate of the Argentine to follow his former boss there instead.

Dejan Lovren, Southampton

It’s always likely that having just left St Mary’s the new manager will be linked with his former players and with doubts over the capabilities of skipper Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul, maybe the impressive Lovren would be a good purchase.

Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea

As previously mentioned, the inconsistency of Emmanuel Adebayor and the apparent failure of £26m man Roberto Soldado means strikers are a priority and they don’t come much more appealing that Blues starlet Lukaku.

Loic Remy, QPR

Another forward who impressed last campaign whilst on-loan with an English side was Remy, who’s 14 league strikes for Newcastle United makes the 27-year-old an attractive – and cheaper – prospect.

Jay Rodriguez, Southampton

The fourth and final Saints player on this list is another who has greatly developed under Pochettino’s guidance and is now a fully fledged England international – although is currently sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury.
