The former Italy international, who won the World Cup with the Azzurri back in 2006 in Germany, was on fire for the little Serie A outfit last season, with the veteran 37-year-old netting 20 times in just 33 outings for the newly promoted side. 

9) Yaya Toure (Manchester City): 146.4 minutes

The giant Ivory Coast international enjoyed a wonderful campaign for the north-west giants last timeout, with the 2-year-old’s 20 strikes in only 35 top-flight outings going a long way towards helping Manuel Pellegrini’s men win the Premier League. 

8) Robert Lewandowski (Borussia Dortmund): 140.2 minutes

The always deadly Poland international was at it again in the previous campaign, with the 25-year-old managing to hit the back of the net 20 times in 33 league matches as his side finished as runners-up for the second year running to eventual champions Bayern Munich.

7) Ciro Immobile (Torino): 117.7 minutes

The Italy international was on fire for Genoa last season, with the 24-year-old netting 22 goals in his 33 Serie A games. 

6) Diego Costa (Atletico Madrid): 109.6 minutes

The Brazil-born attacker helped Atleti claim an unlikely La Liga title in the previous campaign thanks to his 27 strikes in only 35 Spanish top-flight outings by the new La Roja hitman. 

5) Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool): 108.4 minutes

The England international, 24, recorded his best-ever goals return in the Premier League for the Reds last time out, with the forward managing to net 21 times in just the 29 league outings as the Merseysiders finished as runners-up to Manchester City. 

4)  Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Paris Saint-Germain): 106.4 minutes

The tall Sweden international enjoyed his most prolific campaign in front of goal in his illustrious career to date last season as Ibra banged in 25 goals in his 33 league outings to help his side retain their Ligue 1 title with some ease. 

3) Luis Suarez (Liverpool): 95.6 minutes

Despite missing the Reds’ first five league games of the previous campaign through suspension, that still did not stop the red-hot Uruguay international from ending the season as the top scorer in the Premier League with 31 strikes from just the 33 matches. 

2) Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona): 89.4 minutes

According to some reports, the little Argentina international endured a poor season last time out, although his stats do not seem to bear that theory out, with the 26-year-old still managing to score 28 Liga goals in his 31 matches. 

1) Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid): 81.9 minutes

No real prizes for guessing the identity then of who Europe’s most deadly and efficient attacking player was last season, with the Los Blancos forward managing to find the back of the net on an incredible 31 occasions in total in just the 30 La Liga contests.
