Arsenal are set to re-sign midfielder Cesc Fabregas after Barcelona offered the 27 year old back to the north London club in a £30m deal that Arsene Wenger hopes to tie up before the World Cup finals get underway.

CaughtOffside understands that Wenger has been in regular contact with the former Gunners captain in recent weeks and with incoming Nou Camp boss Luis Enrique having given the go ahead of the sale of the midfielder it appears a move back to the Emirates Stadium is on the cards.

Fabregas moved back to Barcelona in August 2011 and received a rapturous welcome from the club he represented from the age of 10 until his move to Arsenal, however the Spanish international became a scapegoat for last season’s failures even though he had finished the campaign as the club’s leading assist maker as well as scoring 13 goals in all competitions.

Gerard Martino regularly dropped Fabregas from key fixtures and frequently subbed the playmaker who grew increasingly frustrated as the season wore on.

Fabregas is said to be excited by the prospect of a move back to north London and with Arsene Wenger having signed a new three year contract extension it appears all the more likely that the Barcelona man would be ready to move back to an Arsenal side who have finally brought an end to a nine year silverware drought.

In his previous spell for the club Fabregas made 303 appearances and scored 57 goals.
