Brendan Rodgers sizes up a myriad of potential summer signings.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly planning a major summer spending spree and has an interest in as many as eight potential Anfield additions according to the Daily Star.

Rickie Lambert appears to be edging close to completing a £4m move to the Merseyside outfit that released him as a 15 year old, a move that will see the 32 year old England man support Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

The Southampton man has proven over the past two seasons that he is capable of making a big impact in the Premier League having scored goals for fun in the Championship and lower leagues.

Liverpool have shown a long running interest in Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana and Brendan Rodgers may well see the 25 year old England international as a long term replacement for veteran skipper Steven Gerrard.

Lallana proved very effective last season, scoring nine goals and providing six assists, form that earned him a spot in Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2014 World Cup squad.

Another player who Southampton may struggle to keep hold of this summer.

Nathaniel Clyne is the another Saints player said to be on the Liverpool shopping list and a player who may be seen as a potential replacement for England man Glen Johnson, who is now into the final year of his current contract.

The 23 year old impressed at Crystal Palace before securing a move to St Mary’s in July 2012 and his excellent form of late has led the Londoner to the fringes of a first senior England national team cap.

With almost 200 club appearances to his name Clyne has a solid breadth of experience for a young performer and is a player with the potential to represent a top four outfit.

Southampton’s Dejan Lovren had an excellent debut season in the English top tier and could be one of a host of players to leave St Mary’s this summer.

Though Liverpool had no problem finding the back of the net they equally struggled to keep clean sheets and a move to bring in the experienced Croatian centre-back would be a wise one to consider as Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Daniel Agger failed to impress as partners for no-nonsense Martin Skrtel.

Lovren would probably jump at the chance of a move to Anfield especially now that Mauricio Pochettino has fled for Tottenham.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in further attacking additions this summer and has earmarked a move for Bayern Munich youngster Xherdan Shaqiri.

The £10m rated Swiss international has failed to secure a regular berth in Pep Guardiola’s Allianz Arena set-up and may feel the time is right for a new challenge.

Rodgers could look to the flying wide-man to act as a third prong in an attack that would see the 22 year old line-up alongside Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

Shaqiri started just ten Bundesliga fixtures last term, which was actually less than his first season at the Bavarian outfit.

Sevilla full-back Alberto Moreno has enjoyed a hugely successful season, helping his side to a Europa League triumph, and has forced his way into Vicente del Bosque’s provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup squad.

The 21 year old is probably seen as a long term replacement for injured Spaniard Jose Enrique who was ably replaced by John Flanagan for much of last term.

Ryan Bertrand is another full-back target Brendan Rodgers is keen on securing with the Liverpool manager knowing the England man well from their shared time at Stamford Bridge.

The England man will have enjoyed the regular first team football he secure during his loan spell at Aston Villa last season and could be tempted by a fresh challenge though one imagines that Moreno is the Liverpool manager’s first choice to take over from Jose Enrique as the club’s first choice starter.

Brendan Rodgers will also look to bring in highly rated German Under 21 international midfielder Emre Can.

The talented youngster is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football and a move by Brendan Rodgers for the Frankfurt born starlet certainly adheres to the Anfield boss’s youthful transfer policy.

£10m rated Can moved to Bayer Leverkusen from Bayern Munich last summer and has proven a big hit this term, making 39 appearances in all competitions and helping his side to secure that all important Champions League berth for next term.
