Man United Boss Louis Van Gaal Targets Ten In Mammoth £220m Spending Spree

Old Trafford side ready to spend big to help extinguish memory of horrific David Moyes reign.

Incoming Man United boss Louis van Gaal is set to be handed a massive £220m transfer war-chest and appears more than ready to spend every single penny with the Daily Mail reported on ten targets that are on the Dutch national team coach’s shopping list.

Having seen David Moyes preside over a shocking ten month reign the Old Trafford side are clearly keen to undergo something of a squad overhaul and chief executive Ed Woodward is going to be a very busy man over the coming months as he looks to seal multiple deals in the transfer window.

Man United will be looking to bring in big names as a statement of intent as the Premier League side looks to repair their reputation though will not have Champions League football to offer prospective signings.

Toni Kroos (Bayern Munich)

Man United continue to pursue the German international contract rebel and Louis van Gaal could look to use his contact within his former club to help land the Bayern Munich star.

Kroos wants parity with top earners Franck Ribery, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Phillip Lahm a demand the Bundesiga side have resisted for some months and the Bayern Munich man now has just a year to run on his current contract and as such could be ready to consider offers for his services knowing his value will rapidly decrease once the summer transfer window slams shut.

Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

With Man United losing the services of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand there is clearly a real need to bring in fresh central defensive options, not least as both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones arguably perform better in right-back and defensive midfield roles, and van Gaal will look to tempt the Borussia Dortmund defender to the Premier League this summer.

Having seen his Westfalenstadion side fall further behind domestic rivals Bayern Munich the rock solid defender could be ready for a fresh challenge.

Luke Shaw (Southampton)

Southampton teen Luke Shaw continues to be strongly linked with a move to Man United where he is seen as the ideal man to replace Evra.

The 18 year old has had an outstanding campaign and has matured into one of the hottest prospects in European football and his price-tag could continue to soar if he makes an impact at the 2014 World Cup finals.

Mauricio Pochettino’s St Mary’s exit has merely reinforced the suggestion that Shaw has played his last game for the south-coast side.

Miranda (Atletico Madrid)

Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda has had the best season of his career thus far and some sources had claimed that the Brazilian was the subject of a £25m bid from Man United in recent days.

Some speculation had even suggested that executive vice chairman Ed Woodward had triggered the 29-year-old’s release clause.

Whilst others claimed that Miranda had also started looking at schools in the Manchester area after agreeing a four-year deal.

Koke (Atletico Madrid)

The 22 year old has had a superb season at the Vicente Calderon, becoming a pivotal member of Diego Simeone’s first team set-up and earning a spot in Vicente del Bosque’s Spain squad for the 2014 World Cup finals but the locally born talent may feel he has achieved as much as he can at Atletico.

Koke made 58 appearances in all competitions last term, scoring seven goals and finishing the La Liga campaign as the second highest assist maker.

Louis van Gaal may well see Koke as a player he can re-build his midfield around and the chance to join fellow countrymen David de Gea and Juan Mata may prove very tempting though there are bound to be many sides chasing the crafty midfielder.

William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon)

Sporting Lisbon will demand a whopping £35m for 22 year old Portuguese international Carvalho, which is a massive fee for a player of relatively little top level experience and may be a price-tag that Man United are unwilling to meet.

Carvalho is only into his first full season at Sporting and though he has impressed greatly, forcing his way into the Paulo Bento’s national team set-up for the upcoming World Cup finals, the Primeira Liga side may well need to lower their asking price if they want to cash-in on the youngster.

Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona)

The 27 year old Spanish international came in for some criticism from his own supporters last season and was something of a scapegoat for Gerardo Martino’s trophy-less season, this despite the fact that the former Arsenal man was the club’s leading assist maker.

Louis Van Gaal will no doubt be keen to improve his midfield options and Fabregas would certainly be a top notch addition and has a proven Premier League pedigree.

The likes of Marouane Fellaini, Micheal Carrick, Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley and Shinji Kagawa may well be fearing the axe under the Dutch boss.

Fabregas racked up 303 appearances for Arsenal before returning to Barcelona but he hasn’t proved as big a success as many would have hoped.

Kevin Strootman (AS Roma)

Kevin Strootman is another Dutch target and a player Louis van Gaal knows all too well from his time in charge of the national team.

The 24 year old is currently out with a long term knee injury that has ruled him out of the upcoming World Cup finals but that has not prevented the Old Trafford side from retaining an interest in the Stadio Olimpico man.

Man United targeted Strootman prior to his move from PSV Eindhoven to the Italian capital and are ready to make a bid for the £30m rated midfield general who is expected to be fit in August.

Jordie Clasie (Feyenoord)

Dutch international Jordi Clasie is another on the Old Trafford wish-list and another player who could boost the club’s midfield complement.

Though just 22 Clasie has already racked up close to 150 top tier appearances and has seven national team caps to his name and is a player with a very bright future.

Daley Blind (Ajax)

With Patrice Evra set to leave Man United when this summer Louis van Gaal apparently sees adaptable Ajax man Daley Blind, who is effective both in left-back and defensive midfield roles, as a potential replacement for the French veteran.

Son of former Ajax legend Danny Blind, Daley is an experienced performer with the potential be a steady and dependable addition to the Man United ranks and a marked improvement on fellow countryman Alexander Buttner, who is currently the back-up to Evra.
