The Mirror today claims that AC Milan’s Mario Balotelli is available, with Arsenal especially interested – while the Express reckons that Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham could all compete with the North London giants for the 23-year-old’s signature.

Here’s a run down of why the four prospective Premier League buyers are interested, and what the Italian maverick could provide each of them.

Arsenal)

Arsenal’s striking options are sparse. While Frenchman Olivier Giroud bagged a respectable 22 in all competitions last term, he often went missing in big games – and because of his lack of pace, he doesn’t provide a threat in behind either. Nicklas Bendtner is leaving the club on a free, and Yaya Sanogo hasn’t shown yet that he’s ready to spearhead the side. Balotelli would compete with Giroud for a central striker position, capable of producing more moments of genius than Arsenal’s 27-year-old.

Liverpool)

Balotelli should think long and hard before agreeing to join Liverpool – because he’ll have a serious job on his hands forcing his way into the first-team. Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge scored over 50 Premier League goals between them last term – while Rickie Lambert is being signed as backup. Balotelli struggled as part of a four-man rotating striker force at Manchester City, as his ego demands a pivotal role.

Chelsea)

Jose Mourinho has worked with Balotelli before while at Inter Milan, and while the pair had a torrid relationship, they’re currently on good terms. Chelsea though are expected to seal a £32m deal for Diego Costa, but with Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres all possibly leaving, Balotelli could arrive with the Spaniard to form a new look Blues strike-force.

Tottenham)

Like their London rivals Arsenal, Spurs are crying out for forward improvements. Last summer’s marquee striker signing Roberto Soldado has totally flopped, while Jermain Defoe moved to the MLS in January, and there are doubts over Emanuel Adebayor’s attitude. Balotelli though may demand a move to play Champions League football, one of the reasons he is currently discontent in Milan.
