Arsenal Duo And Champions League Winners Among The Best XI From The 2014 World Cup Group E

The finest team made up of players from Switzerland, France, Ecuador and Honduras.

As the 2014 World Cup draws ever closer the excitement for the biggest international football tournament is increasing with every day passed.

Ahead of the competition CaughtOffside has decided to pick out the statistically best XIs from each of the eight groups, with it being the turn of Group E this time around – which contains Switzerland, France, Ecuador and Honduras.

We have taken stats from WhoScored to do this and will be playing a 4-4-2 formation.

GK – Stephane Ruffier, Saint-Etienne and France – 6.76

Ruffier may be third choice for his country behind captain Hugo Lloris and Mickael Landreau, but according to this the St Etienne star is the best in the entire group.

RB – Mathieu Debuchy, Newcastle United and France – 7.42

There is a headache for national team manager Didier Deschamps over whether to play Debuchy or Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna at right-back, so hopefully this should settle things.

LB – Ricardo Rodriguez, Wolfsburg and Switzerland – 8.02

It has been a brilliant previous 12 months for this 21-year-old, who was not only defensively resolute for Wolfsburg but even scored five goals and provided nine assists in the Bundesliga.

CB – Johan Djourou, Hamburger SV (on-loan from Arsenal) and Switzerland – 7.16

May have been unwanted at the Gunners, but Djourou has more than proven his worth in Germany and should play a key role for the Swiss at the World Cup.

CB – Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal and France – 7.33

Partnering Djourou at the back in this team is his north London teammate, who has proven to any doubters this term that he is a top-class centre-back.

RM – Franck Ribery, Bayern Munich and France – 8.24

Finishing third in the running for the Ballon d’Or in 2014 they don’t come much better than Ribery, who despite an injury ravaged season still managed to score 10 goals and provide 10 assists in 22 league appearances.

LM – Antoine Griezmann, Real Sociedad and France – 7.20

After a brilliant year with Sociedad in 2013/14 it’s little wonder some of Europe’s best sides are keeping tabs on this 23-year-old, who scored 16 La Liga goals last campaign.

CM – Paul Pogba, Juventus and France – 7.64

Still only 21-years-old this Juve midfielder is considered to be among the best in the world in his position and is a stalwart for both club and country.

CM – Yohan Cabaye, Paris Saint-Germain and France – 7.10

The majority of these stats for Cabaye actually come from when the 28-year-old was with Newcastle United in the first half of the season, as since a January switch to PSG the Frenchman has found game time hard to come by.

ST – Admir Mehmedi, Freiburg and Switzerland – 7.38

Although often operates as an attacking midfielder this 23-year-old can play as a striker and proved his scoring credentials last term with 12 Bundesliga goals.

ST – Karim Benzema, Real Madrid and France – 7.42

Rounding off a team that is full of Frenchmen is this Madrid star, who in a Champions League and Copa del Rey winning campaign netted 24 goals.
