How Arsenal’s Starting XI In 2014/15 Might Look if Arsene Wenger Invests £100m Wisely

With the Emirates Stadium side set to hand Gunners boss Wenger big transfer war-chest we discuss how he should best spend those funds.

Having put pen to paper on a new three year contract Arsene Wenger will look to make the most of a reported £100m transfer war-chest and here is the starting eleven he should have in mind once he’s spent the requisite funds.

Goalkeeper – Wojciech Szczesny

Young Pole was a steady enough custodian in 2013/14, no Premier League keeper collected more clean sheets than the 24 year old, so he retains his place in the starting eleven in our predited

Left-Back – Kieran Gibbs

Having seen off the challenge of Spaniard Nacho Monreal we also opt to keep faith in the England international though the 24 year old does still suffer with consistent injury concerns.

Centre-Back – Per Mertesacker

German giant retains his spot in our Arsenal XI having put in a series of top quality displays though was occasionally over-run by top attacks so could do with improving on his lack of speed.

Centre-Back – Laurent Koscielny

French international was a rock last season and was near flawless whilst forming a superb partnership with Mertesacker which has left hugely talented Belgian Thomas Vermaelen waiting patiently on the bench.

Right-Back – Seamus Coleman

The Everton man would be the ideal, if expensive, replacement for exit bound French veteran Bacary Sagna. The Republic of Ireland international was sensational last term, solid in defence and deadly in the final third.

Defensive Midfield – Sami Khedira

German has returned from a long lay-off and would be a top player to fill a spot Mikel Arteta has struggled in over the past 18 months. There is every chance that a big bid may be accepted by Carlo Ancelotti.

Central Midfield – Aaron Ramsey

A key player who’s injury absence effectively derailed the Gunners Premier League title challenge. Scoring regularly and able to unlock defences with individual moments of brilliance.

Attacking Midfield – Mesut Ozil

German had an average, if no spectacular, opening season at Arsenal and has the class to deliver next term and will certainly be a player Arsene Wenger will look to build his attack around for years to come.

Left Wing – Antoine Griezmann

A long term Arsene Wenger target and a player who’s stand-out campaign has led to a long awaited run in the senior French national team set-up. Netted 20 goals for Real Sociedad last season and certainly worthy of a ‘step-up’ this summer.

Striker – Karim Benzema

Whilst Olivier Giroud has had two solid seasons at the club Arsene Wenger needs a more capable forward leading his line and it’s time the Arsenal manager nabbed another long term target. With Ancelotti actively chasing Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero there is every chance the former Lyon man could be sold.

Right Wing – Theo Walcott

Missed most of last season but the England man impressed when fully fit and is still a player who should be a pivotal part of Arsene Wenger’s first team set-up in 2014/15.
