Liverpool & Man United Set to Profit From Major Saints Clearout

We look at where six in-demand Southampton stars could end up this summer.

Liverpool completed the £4m signing of England striker Rickie Lambert from Southampton on Monday.

Lambert’s departure, which followed manager Mauricio Pochettino’s move to Tottenham Hotspur last month, could signal a mass exodus from St Mary’s.

No fewer than six other Southampton players have been linked with moves away.

We have assessed where they are likely to end up.

Adam Lallana

Liverpool have already bid £25m for Lallana, who is apparently valued at around £30m by the Saints.

Tottenham are also reported to be keen on the 26-year-old midfielder, but he looks to be set to join Lambert at Anfield.

Luke Shaw

Manchester United appear poised to make 18-year-old Shaw the most expensive teenager in the world by bringing him to Old Trafford for a fee in the region of £27m.

The wonderkid has also been linked with Chelsea, but a move to the Red Devils seems to be on the cards.

Jay Rodriguez

There was talk of Rodriguez going to the World Cup with England until he injured his knee in April.

The 24-year-old scored 15 goals in 33 Premier League games before his season was brought to a premature end.

Rodriguez’s impressive form has seen him linked with Liverpool and Manchester City, but Tottenham is his most realistic destination, although he may well stay at St Mary’s for one more year at least.

Gaston Ramirez

Ramirez was linked with a move to Serie A side Torino earlier this week.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan made 18 Premier League appearances this season, but only three starts.

He could well be dispensed with.

Nathaniel Clyne

Like so many of his teammates, Clyne has been strongly tipped to join Liverpool this summer.

However, the 23-year-old should remain at Southampton, unless Glen Johnson leaves Anfield.

Clyne has 25 months left to run on his current contract.

Dejan Lovren

After a brilliant season, in which he helped Southampton keep 15 clean sheets in 38 Premier League games, Lovren is in high demand.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and AC Milan have all been tentatively mentioned in the same sentence as the 24-year-old.

However, it looks like it could be a straight fight between Liverpool and Spurs for his signature.
