Five In And Five Out For Arsenal This Summer Including Tottenham Target Signed And Mikel Arteta Sold

The players coming in and out of the Emirates this summer.

The 2013/14 season ended up being positive for Arsenal after qualifying for the Champions League for a 17th successive year and ending what was approaching a nine-year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup.

However, after topping the Premier League for more days than any other side, finishing fourth is seen as something of a disappointment by many and improvements are needed over the summer as a result.

So here are five players we expect manager Arsene Wenger to sign and five we expect him to let go before the 2014/15 campaign starts.

Players out:

Mikel Arteta

Despite having been such a reliable presence for both the Gunners and Everton before them, last term was a difficult one for Arteta in which the Spaniard struggled to adapt to a more deeplying role.

With Wenger having a number of options in attacking midfield there isn’t room for the 32-year-old as well and we expect him to be replaced.

Nicklas Bendtner

It has been a difficult few years for Bendtner in north London and with the Dane’s contract expiring this summer it’s unlikely the striker is to be given a new deal.

Attack was an issue for Wenger’s side last season and getting rid of the 26-year-old will open up a space for a new option upfront.

Johan Djourou

This deal has already been confirmed as after a successful year on-loan with Hamburger SV the Bundesliga club have decided to sign the Switzerland international on a permanent basis.

The 27-year-old centre-back has not been in the plans at the Emirates Stadium for some time and many fans many have even forgotten Djourou is a Gunners player.

Lukasz Fabianski

Despite the best efforts of the club Fabianski has decided to leave the English capital this summer and join fellow Premier League outfit Swansea City.

It brings to an end seven years with the side and it means Wojciech Szczesny is now the only goalkeeper on the books.

Bacary Sagna

Another player now who’s contract was running out at the Emirates but which Wenger was still keen to keep hold of – yet after several negotiations Sagna has confirmed he is leaving this summer.

The next destination of the Frenchman is unknown currently, although the 31-year-old has been strongly linked with Manchester City.

Players in:

Serge Aurier, Toulouse

With Sagna on his way the north Londoners need a new right-back, with backup Carl Jenkinson not considered good enough to fill the gap on a permanent basis.

This is what has drawn the side to Aurier, who has been impressing in Ligue 1 over the past 12 months and has admitted that a switch to Arsenal would greatly interest him.

Antoine Griezmann, Real Sociedad

Despite the fact that Wenger does have a number of options in attacking midfield already, this impressive forward has caught the eye of the Frenchman and he has admitted they would be interested in signing the 23-year-old.

Griezmann scored 16 La Liga goals for Sociedad last term, despite generally operating from the left flank, but his versatility means the France international could be deployed as a striker as well.

Lois Remy, QPR

As Wenger has already openly admitted the team relied too heavily on Olivier Giroud last campaign and despite the fact the Frenchman was solid enough, support for the 27-year-old is desperately needed.

That is what has drawn the boss to Giroud’s national teammate Remy, who has an £8m buyout fee in his contract at Loftus Road – but they face competition from local rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

John Ruddy, Norwich City

With Fabianski already going to the Liberty Stadium and Emiliano Viviano returning to Parma after an unsuccessful loan spell, competition is needed for Szczesny between the sticks.

With Norwich having been relegated Ruddy is likely to be keen to maintain his top flight status and have the chance to play Champions League football for the first time in his career.

Morgan Schneiderlin, Southampton

Defensive midfield is somewhere the north London side have struggled, despite the fact Mathieu Flamini was considered a success in 2013/14 following his return to the club from AC Milan.

Therefore capitalising on the unrest at St Mary’s currently could be a good move for Wenger, who could snap up the 24-year-old Schneiderlin for around £12m.
