Steven Gerrard And Jamie Carragher Among The 10 Best Liverpool Players Ever

The greatest Reds of all time.

It is the 122nd birthday of Liverpool football club and in honour of the landmark CaughtOffside has decide to pick out the 10 greatest Reds players of all time.

10. Alan Hansen

A stalwart in the side when the Merseysiders enjoyed the greatest period in their history, winning eight league titles and three European Cups in 14 years at Anfield.

9. Kevin Keegan

Signed originally as a midfielder Keegan was soon promoted to being a forward and during six years at the club won three league titles and the European Cup, before winning the Ballon d’Or twice with Hamburger SV.

8. Graeme Souness

Despite only spending six years with the club Souness’ CV could barely read any better, with five First Division titles and three European Cups during that time.

7. Jamie Carragher

A true one club player and a defender who has a special place in the fans’ hearts as a result, winning two FA Cups, three League Cups and the Champions League during his 16 years on Merseyside.

6. Robbie Fowler

Broke onto the scene in 1993 as an exciting goalscorer, going onto spend eight years in the first team and winning two PFA Young Player of the Year awards, before a brief return to the club in 2006/07.

5. Billy Liddell

A Scot who’s career at Anfield spanned over 23 years – although the start of that was interrupted by World War II – and despite his prestigious talent Liddell finished his time with the side with just one First Division title to his name.

4. John Barnes

A brilliant winger for both club and country, Barnes’ decade with the Reds came at a time when their superiority was in decline and as such the Englishman ended with two league titles and two FA Cup triumphs.

3. Ian Rush

Spent 15 years with the Merseysiders over two spells – with a year with Juventus in the middle – during which time Rush was a prolific striker that helped the club to five league titles and two European Cups.

2. Steven Gerrard

Doesn’t have quite as impressive a trophy haul as others on this list, but after progressing from the youth academy in 1997 to now be the captain in 2014, as well as dragging them to an historic Champions League victory in 2005, Gerrard has to be considered among the greats.

1. Kenny Dalglish

Yet topping the list is a man who has won the league title with the club as both a player and manager, which amounts to nine in total, which added to three FA Cups and three European Cups makes Dalglish one of the best the game has ever seen.
