The World Cup is a wonderful stage where some of the best players will shine, and clubs from all over Europe will be monitoring their progress closely ahead of potential blockbuster transfer deals.

Here’s ten of the biggest and best World Cup stars who could be switching club sides before, or after this summer’s football extravaganza in Brazil.

Mats Hummels – Germany

The Borussia Dortmund defender is rated as one of the very best central defenders on the planet, and is the man on top of Manchester United’s list to replace departing duo Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. He’ll take some persuading to join though, as he’s claimed he’s happy with his current club – although a mammoth offer could convince Dortmund to sell.

Diego Costa – Spain

The Brazilian born Spaniard looks like wrapping up a move to Chelsea before the tournament starts, but if for any reason a deal isn’t completed – expect countless European heavyweights to be after Atletico’s 36 goal powerhouse.

Ricardo Rodriguez – Switzerland

One of the most highly rated left-backs in world football right now, the 21-year-old dominated Bundesliga all season, contributing five goals and nine assists. He works tirelessly and provides an offensive threat, and it’s no surprise Real Madrid are sniffing around him as a result.

Morcos Rojo – Argentina

AS Monaco, PSG, Arsenal and Liverpool are all chasing the 24-year-old Argentine, who plays in Portugal for Sporting Lisbon. He’s equally adept at either centre-back or left-back, but will be starting on the left of Argentina’s back four this summer.

Adam Lallana – England

Liverpool are the favourites to sign the £30m rated Southampton man, who provides both goals and assists from the centre of the park. The Reds could give up on him though as they believe the quoted price is extortionate. He’s dynamic, and at 26-years-old, is coming into his prime. Expect him to start for England this summer.

Luke Shaw – England

Shaw could well complete a £27m move to Manchester United, which would make him the most expensive teenager in football history. For an 18-year-old, it’s astonishing how physically developed and how composed he is in pressure situations. Should play left-back for England for years to come.

Serge Aurier – Ivory Coast

Arsenal were close to wrapping up a deal for Aurier, but Liverpool have now entered the race for his signature. The 21-year-old right-back was excellent in Ligue 1 last term with Toulouse, scoring and assisting sic goals apiece from defence.

Arturo Vidal – Chile

The self-proclaimed ‘Best midfielder in the world’, Vidal’s dynamic and combative presence helped Juventus win the title last term. It looks as though the excellent South American could be close to mammoth £41m transfer to Real Madrid.

Cesc Fabregas – Spain

Every big Premier League club has been linked with the former Arsenal and current Barcelona sensation, but Chelsea are now considered to be the frontrunners for his coveted signature. He’s creatively wonderful, and at 27-years-old, should be in his footballing prime.

Koke – Spain

Atletico Madrid will unlikely accept anything less than £49m for the superb mercurial playmaker, and Barcelona are favourites to secure him – especially if they do sell Fabregas to England.
