Top 10 Best Attacking Midfielders At The 2014 World Cup Including Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil And Chelsea Ace

The best attacking midfielders at the World Cup.

With the 2014 World Cup in Brazil just a week away CaughtOffside takes a look at the 10 best attacking midfielders at the tournament.

10. Alexis Sanchez, Chile

Purists may say that Sanchez is more of a forward, but the South American operates from the right flank for FC Barcelona and last season managed to score 19 La Liga goals and will be a big influence for the Chileans.

9. James Rodriguez, Colombia

This 22-year-old was part of a £60m double deal involving Joao Moutinho last summer, when the duo signed for AS Monaco and the Colombian has been brilliant during his first term in Ligue 1.

8. Angel Di Maria, Argentina

Despite the purchase of both Gareth Bale and Isco last summer, Di Maria simply adapted his game at Real Madrid to fit in and was crucial in both their Champions League and Copa del Rey triumphs.

7. David Silva, Spain

Despite there being a plethora of talent in attacking midfield for the Spanish, Silva is a stalwart after helping Manchester City to their second Premier League title in three years in 2013/14.

6. Mesut Ozil, Germany

Like the Spaniards, Joachim Loew’s side have an enormous amount of talent in the final third and despite having an indifferent first term with Arsenal following a £42.4m transfer, Ozil is still a world-class performer.

5. Eden Hazard, Belgium

Everyone’s favourite dark horses are the Belgians and if they are to achieve great things then they’ll need Chelsea’s PFA Young Player of the Year to be playing to his full potential.

4. Arjen Robben, Netherlands

It’s a strange Dutch squad at Louis van Gaal’s disposal, with a number of frankly average players included, although that can’t be said about this brilliant Bayern Munich winger after helping his side to another Bundesliga title this year.

3. Andres Iniesta, Spain

The scorer of the winning goal in the final of the 2010 World Cup, Iniesta is sure to play another key part for his nation this time around after a typically fine season with Barca.

2. Marco Reus, Germany

Firing his way up this list after a fine term with Borussia Dortmund, Reus has proven himself to be not only a source of creativity, but also of goals.

1. Franck Ribery, France

Yet topping the list is a player who might actually miss the World Cup due to injury, although French head coach Didier Deschamps will be doing all he can to ensure the Bayern star is in South America.
