Five Honduras Players To Watch Out for In Tonight’s England World Cup Warm Up

Pacy Anderlecht winger, Spain-slaying target man and former Tottenham Hotspur star feature.

England play their final friendly before the World Cup tonight.

Honduras provide the opposition for Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions in Miami.

The North American nation are placed 33rd in the FIFA World Rankings.

We have identified five of their players that are worth looking out for.

Wilson Palacios

Energetic midfielder Palacios shot to stardom at Wigan Athletic. A number of fine displays for the Latics convinced Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspur to pay £12m for his services in January 2009.

Although he missed the latter stages of the season through suspension, Palacios was one of Tottenham’s most important players in the 2009-10 campaign, which saw the North London side finish fourth in the Premier League and book a place in the Champions League.

Palacios left Spurs to join Stoke City in August 2011. The 29-year-old has only started 14 league games for the Potters, but he remains a vital player for Honduras, whom he has represented 94 times at senior international level.

Roger Espinoza

Wigan Athletic’s Espinoza is a talented wing-back, but he often plays in midfield for his country.

The left-footed 27-year-old is aggressive and a strong tackler, but he is also a good offensive player.

His passing and dribbling skills are sound and he is capable of delivering a mean cross.

Andy Najar

Najar is an explosive right winger, who plays for Belgian giants Anderlecht.

Despite being just 21 years old, he already has 17 senior international caps to his name.

He is fast, fit and fearless. Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw beware.

Jerry Bengtson

Tall centre forward Jerry Bengtson is his side’s target man. He is a very direct player, who is strong in the air and accustomed to finding the net.

Bengtson has scored 19 goals in 41 senior internationals. He also bagged three in four games at the London Olympics in 2012, including the winner against Spain in a 1-0 victory at St James’ Park.

The 27-year-old plays his club football for New England Revolution in the USA.

Maynor Figueroa

The experienced Hull City star is predominantly a left-back, but he may play at centre-half to accommodate Celtic’s Emilio Izaguirre.

Figueroa, 31, has been capped 104 times at senior level. Only goalkeeper Noel Valladares and midfielder Amado Guevara, who will not play at Brazil 2014, have represented Honduras more times.

In 32 Premier League games for Hull this season, busy Figueroa made 67 tackles, 79 interceptions and 113 clearances.
