Classy playmaker’s agent admits that he is aware of Arsenal interest.
The representative of Napoli attacking midfielder Lorenzo Insigne has said the the player feels “honoured” after being linked with a summer move to Arsenal.
The 23-year-old, who is currently with the Italian national team preparing for the World Cup in Brazil, seems to be keen on joining the Gunners.
However, Napoli are desperate to keep hold of Insigne, who has four years left to run on his current contract.
Agent Antonio Ottaiano told www.tuttomercatoweb.com: “We take into account the praising reports that [Arsenal manager] Wenger has given about the player.
“We are honoured that a club like Arsenal could have Lorenzo on their wish list.
“However, from here to take it to the next level, that is a possible transfer, there is a huge mountain in between named Napoli.
“The club consider him without a shadow of a doubt as one of their cardinal players for their ambitious project.
“Hence, as of today, I don’t see that there can be any further developments unless Arsenal speak to Napoli directly and Napoli change their view on Lorenzo’s role here.”
Insigne, who generally operates from the left flank, has been capped five times at senior international level.
He made 36 Serie A appearances for Napoli this season, scoring three goals and providing six assists. He completed 44 successful dribbles, 28 crosses and 59 key passes.
At 5 ft 4 in, Insigne will be one of the shortest players at the World Cup.
Due to his lack of height, he is fairly poor in the air. His finishing is also considered a weakness in his game – his three league goals came from 83 shots attempted.
Insigne’s strengths include passing and holding onto the ball under pressure.
He has been a Napoli player his entire career, although he has had loan spells at Cavese, Foggia and Pescara.
