Check in to Brazil vs Croatia

Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic has revealed his desire to leave the club this summer after becoming unhappy under the style of play adopted by manager Pep Guardiola, Sky Sports reports.

The Croatian international has been a key player for the Bavarian giants since joining the club from Wolfsburg back in 2012, scoring the opening goal in their 2-1 Champions League final win over Borussia Dortmund on the way to winning the treble last season, and is now expected to attract interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs after stating his intention to move.

The 28-year-old found himself increasingly among the substitutes towards the end of this season, and with Bayern moving to sign Dortmund front-man Robert Lewandowski on a free transfer this summer, his place in the side could be even further under threat next term.

Mandzukic now admits he feels he is not compatible to Guardiola’s style of play, and that he has informed the club of his desire to be granted an exit in this transfer window.

“A lot has been written and said about my future, especially before the German cup final in Berlin and I can tell you that before this – I think on May 8 – along with my agent Ivan Cvjetkovic, we had a decent conversation and exchange of views with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge [Bayern chief executive],” he revealed.

“I said to him that I had decided to change and that it was fair to inform him and the club’s leadership.

“Bayern is a fantastic club, and indeed it was not until recently that I thought about going – I never thought it would happen like this, but let’s be honest – I do not correspond with the style of game that Guardiola wants to play.”

Mandzukic added that a decision on his next club would be made after the World Cup.

The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus have all been linked with the prolific target man, who found the back of the net 26 times in the 2013/14 season.
