The 21 year old impressed many with his display against Liverpool, where he kept strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge quiet, on his Premier League debut in April.

Kalas moved to the west London side in the summer of 2010 and spent two seasons out on loan at Vitesse Arnhem before being ushered into Jose Mourinho’s first team squad in 2013/14.

A move to Germany could further hone Kalas’s skills but it may seem a backward step for the Czech Republic international who may have felt that his displays at the end of last season warranted another chance to impress at Stamford Bridge.

Even though David Luiz was sold to PSG Mourinho still has a fair few central defensive options with the likes of John Terry, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic and Kurt Zouma available to the Chelsea manager.

Chelsea paid Sigma Olomouc £5.2m for Kalas, who has played a total of four matches for the Premier League side.
