Check in to Spain vs Netherlands

Atletico Madrid have set their sights on the possible signing of Napoli winger and rumoured Chelsea target Jose Callejon, according to Spanish publication AS.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a terrific season in Serie A after only leaving Atletico’s local rivals Real Madrid last summer, notching up 20 goals and eight assists for Rafael Benitez’s side as they finished third in the league and won the Coppa Italia.

The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have since been linked with the 27-year-old, who worked under current Blues boss Jose Mourinho during his time at the Bernabeu, though it could now be that he is set for a return to La Liga.

Atletico are keen to build on their phenomenal achievement of winning the title in Spain this season, and have eyed up Callejon as a player who could improve their attacking options, particularly if current star Arda Turan ends up leaving the club after attracting interest from Barcelona.

David Villa has already left the Vincente Calderon, with Diego Costa looking likely to follow in what could be a difficult summer for Diego Simeone’s side, though the signing of Callejon would no doubt lift the spirits of the club’s fans after his fine recent form.
