This brilliant selection of multi-national stars would probably do pretty well at this summer’s World Cup, if firstly they were fit, and secondly started all playing together.

The World Cup will be a sorer place without them…

GK) Victor Valdes – Spain

The Spanish legend missed the second half of the season with Barcelona due to his knee injury. In his place, Manchester United’s David de Gea has been called into Vicente del Bosque’s squad to act as backup.

DR) Gregory van der Wiel – Holland

The PSG ace lost his race against time to make the World Cup, and Louis van Gaal will start with Manchester United target Daryl Janmaat instead.

DC) Holger Badstuber – Germany

The excellent German central defender has actually been injured for most of the past two seasons. If he hadn’t been, he’d probably be regarded as one of the world’s best centre-backs now.

DL) Bryan Oviedo – Costa Rica

The Everton man broke his leg in the Premier League last term, and won’t be fit to face England in the group stages as a result.

MC) Kevin Strootman – Holland

The Roma midfield powerhouse is an expected £30m target for Manchester United when he recovers from his injury. He missed the second of the season in Serie A after a wonderful start, and Holland will miss him badly.

MC) Ilkay Gundogan – Germany

The  box-to-box specialist is the second of three German stars in our Injured XI, who would probably have all made Joachim Lowe’s starting side this summer.

MC) Thiago – Spain

Bayern Munich’s extremely talented midfield man will sadly miss out this summer. Luckily for Spain though, they have more than enough technical midfield options to replace him.

AMR) Theo Walcott – England

England will badly miss Walcott’s pace and dynamism down the right, although in Raheem Sterling, they have a teenage prodigy capable of filling his boots.

AMC) Marco Reus – Germany

Reus excelled in the Bundesliga last term, reaching double figures for both goals and assists for Borussia Dortmund. Germany will miss his outstanding finishing and penchant for creative genius.

AML) Franck Ribery – France

Ribery came third in the Ballon D’or voting for 2013, but sadly will miss the World Cup with France. Didier Descjamps may rely on Antoine Griezmann in his place.

FC) Falcao – Colombia

One of the most lethal strikers in the world, Falcao’s injury means Porto forward Jackson Martinez will lead the line for the South Americans.
