Liverpool are looking to make heavy squad additions this summer, before the team embarks on next season’s Champions League campaign.

After conceding 50 goals in the Premier League last term, Brendan Rodgers knows he needs to make defensive improvements – while Steven Gerrard needs backup in midfield, as do Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge in the attacking positions.

6) Rickie Lambert – £4m

The English forward has already been signed for £4m. He will join up with the Liverpool squad after the World Cup, and  provide goals and assists from the bench next term. The 32-year-old has only got a few years left at the top, but after developing his undeniable ability late on in his career – he’ll be determined to take his chance with both hands.

5) Emre Can – £9.75m

Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle for Germany’s Under-21 international. He’s a very talented anchorman, and will likely be used as backup to Steven Gerrard in the role.

4) Dejan Lovren – Rumoured fee: £15m (Daily Star)

Rodgers knows he needs a new central defender – and could do much worse than the 24-year-old Croatian. Lovren took to the Premier League quickly during his debut season in England, and his composure on the ball suits Liverpool’s possession brand of football. He’d also likely jump at the chance to play Champions League football.

3) Adam Lallana – Rumoured fee: £30m (Daily Mail)

The Saints want £30m, which wile steep – is hardly an unreasonable asking price considering today’s market and the fact Lallana is English. Liverpool have already bid £25m for him, and as next season draws close, it’s likely that the two sides will thrash out a deal to benefit both parties. Lallana would add class and guile to the Reds midfield, and likely act on rotation for Coutinho.

2) Alberto Moreno – Rumoured fee: £18m (Daily Star)

A deal was all but completed until Liverpool baulked at Sevilla’s £18m asking price for the 21-year-old. Moreno has already won caps for the Spanish national side though, and the Reds would be foolish to miss out on the opportunity to secure one of Europe’s most talented fullbacks over a few million pounds.

1) Xherdan Shaqiri – Rumoured fee: £15m (Daily Star)

The 22-year-old Swiss playmaker is comfortable either wide or centrally, and would ease the creative and dribbling burden off Raheem Sterling for Liverpool. Shaqiri also has a powerful shot, and Liverpool would likely be able to tempt him to join Anfield with more game time than he currently receives at Bayern Munich.
