Barcelona tell midfield star he is free to leave this summer.
Premier League giants Arsenal and MAnchester United have been put on high alert after Barcelona told Alex Song that he is free to leave the club during the upcoming transfer window, according to the Daily Star.
The 26-year-old has been told that he is not in new coach Luis Enrique’s plans next season and is free to start searching for a new club when the transfer window re-opens next month.
The Cameroon international has failed to make an impact at Barcelona since making his £15m switch from Arsenal in 2012, with Javier Mascherano the preferred choice in the holding midfield role.
Reports in Spain are suggesting that the former Gunner would be open to a return to his former club and the news of his impending availability could prompt Arsene Wenger to spring into action and take him back to the Emirates.
Arsenal were apparently interested in signing him again during the recent January transfer window, but lost interest upon hearing Barcelona’s £10m asking price.
However, Manchester United have also registered an interest, though it remains to be seen whether new boss Louis Van Gaal will make a concrete offer.
