Splash the Cash: Five Expensive Additions Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger Should Consider This Summer

Everyone knows the Emirates Stadium side is loaded so here are five players the Gunners need to target this summer.

Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)

Estimated Value: £40m

Long term Arsene Wenger target and a player who has had an excellent season at Real Madrid but may be considering his options given his side’s apparent interest in both Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero of Liverpool and Man City respectively.

The 26 year old benefited from the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli, leading to a more regular first team berth and a good run of consistent form, leading to a 24 goal haul.

Benzema is a more accomplished performer than Olivier Giroud and offers a great deal more than just a goal tally and well worth a big money offer, especially if Carlo Ancelotti does indeed bid for new striking options.

Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)

Estimated Value: £40m

German international missed most of last season and could well become surplus to requirements given the number of central midfielders Real Madrid have on their books.

The likes of Asier Illarramendi, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric and Casemiro are vying for first team slots and the former Stuttgart man may well be considering his options this summer.

The tough tackler could well be the ideal replacement for veteran Mikel Arteta, with the Spaniard having a fairly average campaign and has just a year to run on a contract that may well not be renewed.

Iker Casillas (Real Madrid)

Estimated Value: £15m

Lukasz Fabianski has left for Swansea City and Arsene Wenger wants a keeper who can challenge Pole Wojciech Szczesny so why doesn’t the Arsenal boss aim high.

Yes 33 year old blundered his way through Spain’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Holland earlier this week but the experienced custodian is still one of the best in the business, as evidenced by his Champions League heroics this season.

For whatever reason successive Real Madrid manager’s have decided Casillas is not worthy of La Liga action, which is frankly bizarre, so a move away from the Bernabeu seems entirely plausible and perhaps a Premier League move would tempt the World Cup winner.

Casillas is perhaps the most decorated keeper in the history of the game with the local born goalie racking up 678 appearances for Real Madrid, winning five La Liga titles and three Champions League winners medals and in goalkeeping years he is not even all that old.

Seamus Coleman (Everton)

Estimated Value: £16m

The 25 year old wide-man had an excellent season last term, playing a pivotal role in Everton’s push for a top four finish, but having seen his Toffees side pipped by Arsenal for a Champions League berth the Goodison Park star may be considering his options this summer.

Coleman could be the ideal man to replace Sagna, the Irishman being solid in defence and a real danger in the final third, the Everton man is very much a Wenger-style player withe wing-back being comfortable on the ball with an attacking mentality.

Mario Balotelli (AC Milan)

Estimated Value: £30m

Why buy one striker when you can buy two?

The 23 year old forward has had an up and down time of it since moving back to his native Italy 18 months ago and has been strongly linked with a San Siro exit this summer and a move to back to the Premier Leagu may tempt the former Man City man.

Balotelli has had a number on and off field run-ins since moving back to Italy but has still scored regularly, netting 30 goals in 54 appearances for AC Milan, and is a player with a great deal of ability though clearly is a tough character to manage but perhaps Arsene Wenger has the mentality to deal with a clearly very demanding character.

The Italian international put in a superb display against England in his nation’s 2-1 win over Roy Hodgson’s men.
