Manager Brendan Rodgers has been keeping an eye on the young Dutch star for the majority of the season, and upon learning of Manchester United’s interest, CaughtOffside understands that he will sanction a big money move to bring him on board this summer.

The 24-year-old impressed for his country on Friday night, where he played a starring role in their 5-1 victory over Spain in Group A. It was his cross that found Robin Van Persie’s head for their equalising goal, and he earned a number of plaudits playing out of position at left-back.

Usually deployed as a defensive midfielder, Blind excelled on the left side of defence and it is his versatility that has attracted him to the prospect of capturing his signature, as the Reds had problems in both areas last term that eventually contributed to their title challenge slipping from their grasp.

However, Rodgers is aware that he faces a battle to bring Blind to the club as current national team boss Louis Van Gaal is taking over the reins at Manchester United next season and will likely have a clearer run at acquiring his services.

Therefore he plans to put the wheels of a £12m move in motion this week to get the jump on the club’s arch-rivals.
