How Arsenal’s XI Could Look In 2014/15 After A Summer Of Transfers Including Chelsea Target Balotelli

Wenger is expected to be busy this summer.

Ahead of the 2014/15 Premier League season Arsene Wenger knows that changes need to be made if Arsenal are going to progress.

Last term the Gunners finished fourth in the English top tier despite topping the division for more days than any other side, although they did end what was approaching a nine-year trophy drought by winning the FA Cup.

Wenger is therefore expected to enter the transfer market and try and improve his squad ahead of another tough campaign.

GK – Wojciech Szczesny

The Pole proved last term that he could be the established No.1 at the Emirates Stadium and just some sort of backup/competition is all that is needed.

RB – Serge Aurier

With Bacary Sagna moving to Manchester City a new right-back is a priority and among a number of options, this Toulouse youngster is the most likely to be signed.

LB – Kieran Gibbs

Like Szczesny this fellow academy product proved Wenger’s faith right in 2013/14 by firmly establishing the left-back position as his own.

CB – Per Mertesacker

Another great improvement for the North Londoners last term was their improved defensive displays and that is largely thanks to the reliable Mertesacker.

CB – Laurent Koscielny

Alongside the German and ensuring there is pace to make up for the 29-year-old’s lack of it is Koscielny and the duo are among the best in England.

CM – Sami Khedira

Wenger is desperate to sign a defensive midfielder to protect the back four and allow the creative players to shine and with Khedira entering the final year of his contract with Real Madrid, the Germany international could be available.

CM – Aaron Ramsey

One key reason a holding player is needed is to allow the creativity and attacking prowess of Ramsey to shine, with the Welshman proving his class over the past 12 months.

RM – Santi Cazorla

Although there are some reports linking Cazorla with an exit from the Emirates Stadium, having just signed a new contract we expect the Spaniard to stay and continue his development out wide.

CAM – Mesut Ozil

This 25-year-old playmaker became the club’s record signing by some way when he signed for the team from Madrid for a whopping £42.4m and still has much to prove.

LM – Antoine Griezmann

This French attacker impressed many last term by scoring 16 La Liga goals for Real Sociedad from the left flank and Wenger has openly admitted he is interested in the 23-year-old.

ST – Mario Balotelli

Finally and perhaps the most key area for improvement is in attack, where the manager admitted too much reliance was put upon Olivier Giroud for goals and with Balotelli unhappy at AC Milan, this could be the ideal solution – although rivals Chelsea are also interested.
