Chelsea Transfer Targets: Five World Cup Stars Jose Mourinho Should Buy

A collection of talents who are on show in Brazil who should be on Jose Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge wish-list.

Raphael Varane (Real Madrid & France)

21 year old Frenchman had a solid opening World Cup game, helping his nation to secure a clean sheet against a very aggressive Honduras side.

A player Mourinho knows very well from his time in charge of Real Madrid, a player he brought to the Bernabeu and then showed a great deal of faith in during his spell at the Spanish giants.

Carlo Ancelotti has been less generous in handing the 21 year old French international the chance to impress and as such the Italian may be open to big money offers for a centre-back who has a very very bright future and could well be the ideal man to act as a long term replacement for John Terry.

Luka Modric (Real Madrid & Croatia)

Saw his Croatia side lose, perhaps unjustly, to Brazil in the opening match of the 2014 World Cup.

Another player Mourinho knows well from his time in Spain and a player who could be the ideal man to replace Ramires as Chelsea’s midfield engine.

The Croatian started poorly at Real Madrid but over the past 18 months has been at the very top of his game. A proven Premier League talent and maybe a player who could consider a return to London?

Ross Barkley (Everton & England)

England man made an instant impression after coming on as a sub against Italy and the 20 year old could well be the ideal long term replacement for Frank Lampard.

The Everton midfielder could well feel his career progression would be best served by a high-profile move to a side that can offer him the chance of fighting for major honours as well as competing at Champions League level.

Fabio Coentrao (Real Madrid & Portugal)

Portuguese left wing-back saw his side thumped by Germany though the 27 year old did cause a few problems in the opposition half.

With Ashley Cole seemingly set to leave and Cesar Azpilicueta being best used on the right-hand side of the defence there is a very real need for a fresh left-back option.

Chelsea have been linked with pricey Southampton teen Luke Shaw and Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis, but Portuguese international Coentrao may be the perfect man to target. By no means a Real Madrid regular and not a player who will cost a massive sum.

Mario Mandzukic (Bayern Munich & Croatia)

Croatian is looking for a new club having seen the upcoming arrival of Robert Lewandowski as something of a death knell to his Allianz Arena career and we are fairly certain he is on his way to Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to freshen up his strike-force and looks to have deals in place to bag more than just one forward this summer.
