English sides join chase for wantaway Napoli star.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all reportedly joined the chase for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain after it emerged that he would be looking to leave the Italian giants over the summer, according to the Daily Express.
The Argentine international has only been with Rafa Benitez’s side for one season, joining the club last summer, but reports in Spain are suggesting that new Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has targeted him to line up alongside compatriot Lionel Messi in a new look attack.
However, the door has also been opened for a switch to the Premier League, with Arsenal thought to be leading the chase. Arsene Wenger had sought to bring him on board last summer when he left Real Madrid, but narrowly missed out and he is still keen to bring the goal poacher to the Emirates.
Chelsea are also in the market for another striker, despite closing in on a big money move for Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, and could rival the Gunners as they continue to monitor his progress in South America.
Asked if he would like to play with Messi in the future, Higuain told Spanish news agency Efe: “Of course. I enjoy playing alongside him for the national team.
“Obviously it would be an enormous pleasure, but for now I’m focused on the World Cup.
“I’m flattered by the interest from Barca. Any player would be.”
