Manchester City Defender Joleon Lescott To Anger Former Club By Joining West Brom

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans will not be happy.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Alan Irvine has revealed that the Baggies are in talks with Manchester City and England defender Joleon Lescott.

The 31-year-old centre-back is available on a free transfer this summer, as his current contract with the Premier League champions is due to expire at the end of the month.

“There is an interest in Joleon, without a doubt,” BBC Sport quote Irvine as saying. “I believe negotiations are going very well at this particular moment.”

If Lescott were to join West Brom it would no doubt upset and anger fans of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Birmingham-born Lescott began his career at Wolves and played over 200 times for the Molineux club, who are West Brom’s fierce local rivals.

Stoke City and Hull City are also rumoured to be keen on Lescott, but West Brom seem to be leading the race for his signature.

Lescott has been a City player since 2009, when he moved to the Etihad Stadium from Everton.

He has won two Premier League titles with the Sky Blues, as well as one FA Cup and one League Cup.

Lescott has been capped 26 times by England at senior international level, but he has not represented the Three Lions since March 2013.
