Five Right-Backs Arsenal Want As A Replacement For Bacary Sagna Including Liverpool Target

The defenders that the Gunners want with Sagna on their way to City.

One main priority for Arsenal in the transfer market this summer is a right-back, with Bacary Sagna having agreed to join Manchester City.

Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a replacement as soon as possible and here are five alternatives for Sagna at the right side of defence.

Serge Aurier, Toulouse

This seems to be the most likely option as the 21-year-old has had a brilliant year in Ligue 1, being defensively sound and also scoring six league goals and providing the same number of assists.

Aurier has already been impressing at the 2014 World Cup with the Ivory Coast international providing two assists in his nation’s opening day win over Japan, although Liverpool are also interested.

Calum Chambers, Southampton

The Saints are going through something of a transition period with manager Mauricio Pochettino leaving for Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool having signed Rickie Lambert.

The Gunners have had their eye on 19-year-old Chambers for some time, with the teenager having usurped Nathaniel Clyne from the starting XI for much of last season.

Seamus Coleman, Everton

Staying in the Premier League and a defender who impressed so much he was named in the right-back slot in the PFA Team of the Year.

Coleman scored six league goals and showed great presence of mind in both defence and attack.

Juanfran, Atletico Madrid

This Spaniard is probably the most experienced player on the list, having helped Atleti to the Champions League final and La Liga title in 2013/14.

At 29-years-old Juanfran is less of a signing for the future, but should be able to slot into the side with immediate effect.

Atsuto Uchida, Schalke 04

Finally it’s a Japan international who is also on display at the World Cup in Brazil and had another fine year with Schalke in the Bundesliga.

Uchida’s key attributes are his crossing and set piece play, with the 26-year-old being a really useful addition when going forward.
