2014 World Cup: Best Selling Shirts In Brazil

The nations who are the most popular in terms of shirt sales.

The 2014 World Cup in Brazil is in full flow now and two teams have already made the last-16, whilst holders Spain have been eliminated.

There is much excitement surrounding the tournament and fans of the 32 nations competing like to show their colours by donning the jersey of their country.

Here are the five best-selling shirts at the competition, with statistics courtesy of Forbes.

5. Mexico

A consistent World Cup presence and a huge nation with a rich footballing heritage, meaning that in terms of sheer numbers this stat shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Can reach the last-16 as well if they avoid defeat to Croatia in their final Group A game.

4. Italy

Having won the competition four times – only Brazil have topped that – it’s understandable that the Italians like the sport and look to support their team.

After beating England 2-1 in their Group D opener the Azzurri look good to qualify from a pool that also contains Uruguay and Costa Rica.

3. Netherlands

This is perhaps a little more of a surprise, as despite always being considered a top side the Dutch have never actually won the World Cup and their population is relatively small when compared to others on this list.

Having beaten Spain and Australia already Louis van Gaal’s men are one of the teams already through to the knockout stages.

2. USA

In terms of footballing heritage this is something of a surprise, but in terms of the amount of fans they have it should be no shock that the Americans are so high on this list.

The nation started their competition well with a late winner in a 2-1 victory over Ghana, but face Portugal and Germany in their final two matches.

1. Brazil

No prizes for guessing that the hosts, five-time winners of the World Cup and widely regarded as the best football nation on the planet top the list.

With 200 million people in the South American country cheering their team on, it looks like a sea of yellow around the tournament.
