Five Stars Of The 2014 World Cup That Liverpool Want To Sign Including £42m Southampton Duo

The players from the World Cup that the Reds are looking to sign.

After signing Rickie Lambert and Emre Can this summer, Liverpool are hoping to use the 2014 World Cup as platform to view more potential new signings.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his squad ahead of the Reds’ return to the Champions League next season and here are five players currently in Brazil that the Merseyside club have their eye on.

Adam Lallana

It’s hardly been a great debut World Cup for this Southampton captain, with two substitute appearances for England in two 2-1 losses to Italy and Uruguay.

However, Rodgers is still keen to sign the 26-year-old, although has already had a £25m bid for the attacking midfielder rejected by the Saints and is reluctant to go any higher.

Dejan Lovren

Another from St Mary’s now and someone else who is considering leaving the Hampshire club following the departure of Lambert and manager Mauricio Pochettino for Tottenham Hotspur.

Lovren is currently representing Croatia at the World Cup, with the Europeans able to reach the last-16 with victory over Mexico in their final Group A game.

Guillermo Ochoa

Despite having signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland for £9m in 2013, Rodgers is keen to add competition for the Belgian after a shaky first year at Anfield.

Those that saw the Brazil v Mexico match will know that this goalkeeper is a fine talent and the 28-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving French side Ajaccio.

Marcos Rojo

With a move for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno seeming to have stalled, the Merseysiders are looking for other options for recruitment in defence.

Although Sporting Lisbon’s Rojo is naturally a central defender, the 24-year-old plays as a wing-back for Argentina and shows great versatility.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Finally it’s a Bayern Munich star who has found first team opportunities hard to come by at the Allianz Arena following a 2012 switch to the Bundesliga champions.

Shaqiri is a firm fixture in the Switzerland starting XI though and under the guidance of experienced manager Ottmar Hitzfeld the nation is expected to do well at the World Cup.
