Reds still desperate to land Saints star.Liverpool will try their luck with a third bid for Southampton winger Adam Lallana after he returns from World Cup duty with England, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds have twice failed in their attempts to sign the in-form 26-year-old, whose fine performances for the Saints in 2013/14 saw him earn a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s squad for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
However, with England losing to Uruguay on Thursday evening, Lallana and co. could now be close to heading home if results elsewhere don’t go their way in the final two group games.
This will see Liverpool try again with an approach for Lallana, who is thought to be keen to move to Anfield this summer, though they are still hoping to sign him for below Southampton’s £30m asking price.
With striker Rickie Lambert already making the move from the St Mary’s Stadium to Merseyside, Southampton will not want to be losing more of their best players easily, and are also hoping to fight off Liverpool’s interest in Croatian defender Dejan Lovren.
Lallana’s high transfer fee has seen Brendan Rodgers’ side linked with other possible recruits in midfield, with the likes of Bayern Munich wide-man Xherdan Shaqiri possibly available for cheaper this summer.
