The finest players upfront at the tournament in Brazil.
As each day passes the story of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil turns another page and so far it has been an exciting tournament full of twists and turns.
Unlike the 2010 competition there have been plenty of goals to boot and here are the 10 best strikers on show so far in South America.
10. Lionel Messi, Argentina
As was also true four years ago the FC Barcelona superstar struggled on the international stage, although his winning goal against Bosnia & Herzegovina was truly something special.
9. Mario Balotelli, Italy
Has had a frustrating season at AC Milan, but is still a great performer for his country and the 23-year-old also netted the winner for his nation with a well taken header against England.
8. Neymar, Brazil
The talisman of the hosts and a Barca forward who is expected to produce magic all the time, which the 22-year-old did in the opener with Croatia by netting twice in a 3-1 win.
7. Mario Mandzukic, Croatia
Missed the first game due to suspension, but this Bayern Munich made up for lost time in the Croatians’ second outing against Cameroon with a brace in a 4-0 drubbing.
6. Joel Campbell, Costa Rica
Whilst on-loan at Olympiakos from Arsenal last term this 21-year-old played more as a winger than an striker, but for his nation he leads the line and scored a fine goal in the surprise 3-1 win over Uruguay.
5. Gervinho, Ivory Coast
Gunners fans remember this 27-year-old as something of a liability, but the Ivorian has had a great year with AS Roma and has carried that form into the World Cup as well with two goals in as many games.
4. Karim Benzema, France
Despite the fact the French were playing the supposedly weak Honduras in their first match, Real Madrid ace Benzema was still in fine form, scoring twice and forcing an own goal in a 3-0 victory.
3. Luis Suarez, Uruguay
Like Mandzukic this Liverpool star also missed his team’s first game, but due to injury, and made his comeback against England on Thursday with an impressive brace.
2. Thomas Muller, Germany
At 24-years-old this Bayern forward has now scored eight World Cup goals in just seven games (as many as Diego Maradona) after netting a hat-trick against Portugal.
1. Robin van Persie, Netherlands
Van Persie also has three goals in the competition so far after netting in the Netherlands’ 5-1 and 3-2 wins over Spain and Australia respectively and this Manchester United attacker is well on the way to winning the Golden Boot.
